Phototherapy and Neonatal Monitoring

NEO 110 delves into the specialized equipment used in neonatal care for treating hyperbilirubinemia and continuously monitoring vital signs. The curriculum covers the various types of phototherapy light sources, including LED and fiber optic systems, and the critical importance of accurate irradiance measurement for effective treatment. Students will gain a deep understanding of pulse oximetry technology, its application in neonates, and common technical challenges. Furthermore, the course extensively covers apnea and cardiorespiratory monitors, exploring their operational principles, alarm management, and routine maintenance. Practical hands-on labs are integrated to develop proficiency in equipment inspection, functional testing, and preventative maintenance, culminating in a capstone project that simulates real-world service scenarios.
